Terms & Conditions of Friendly Rent a Car
Please read the Terms and Conditions for car rental in Thessaloniki with Friendly Rent a Car before booking.
DRIVER’S AGE
The minimum age for renting a vehicle is 23 years old.
The maximum age is 75 years old.
By paying an additional insurance fee of €5 per day, the minimum age requirement can be lowered to 21 years old.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR VEHICLE RENTAL
- Valid driving licenses for all registered drivers
- International Driving Permit if required (please refer to the following paragraph “Driving License”
- Passport or EU national ID for all drivers
Upon vehicle pickup, original documents must be presented to verify identity (driving license and ID for residents of Greece, driving license and passport for residents of other countries).
Photocopies, digital copies on mobile phones, or documents sent via email are not accepted, and the company will not proceed with the rental. Any payments made will not be refunded.
All booking information submitted (electronically or by phone) must be valid. Our company reserves the right to refuse the rental if the provided information is not valid.
DRIVING LICENSE
The driving license must have been issued at least 1 year prior to the vehicle pickup date.
National driving licenses issued within the EU are accepted.
Citizens of all other countries must hold a valid International Driving Permit along with their national driving license.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
Deposit Payment:
The deposit can be paid online through our website using credit, debit, or prepaid cards—Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Diners, and Discover.
Final Payment:
Final payment can be made upon vehicle pickup either in cash or using credit, debit, or prepaid cards.
Security Deposit – Vehicle Guarantee
The amount of the security deposit depends on the selected insurance package. Upon vehicle pickup, the driver must provide a credit or debit card, which will be used for the security deposit. This amount will be held (pre-authorized) on the card and will not be available for immediate use. It will be fully refunded at the end of the rental period, provided there are no additional charges.
The time it takes for the amount to be released depends on the card-issuing bank, not our company. We release the security deposit immediately after the rental ends.
Alternatively, the security deposit may be paid in cash.
Bookings and Car Groups
All bookings are based on vehicle groups, not specific car models.
We always try to provide the specific car model selected during booking, but in case it is unavailable, we reserve the right to provide a similar model.
The similar model is typically a vehicle in the same group as the selected model.
Our company also reserves the right to offer a vehicle from a higher group at no extra charge.
CROSS-BORDER RESTRICTIONS – FERRY TRANSPORTATION
Vehicles are not allowed to leave the territory of Greece.
Transporting a vehicle via ferry is only permitted with written consent from our company.
RENTAL PRICE INCLUDES
- Unlimited Kilometers for rentals longer than 4 days.
- For rentals up to 4 days, the price includes 150 km/day for free. Additional kilometers are charged at €0.20/km.
- CDW insurance with a deductible and Third-Party Insurance (T.P.I.)
- 24-hour Roadside Assistance
- All taxes and VAT
- One additional driver
- In case of pet transportation, please inform us in advance so we can provide a protective seat cover for the rear seats.
Rental Duration and Minimum Rental Charge
The minimum booking duration is a few hours, and the maximum is 30 days.
The minimum charge, regardless of rental duration, is one full day.
If you wish to rent a vehicle for more than 30 days, please contact us for a special offer. The rental agreement must be renewed every 30 days.
Fixed Compensation Fees for Damage/Loss/Negligence
- Vehicle key: standard €150, special €300
- Baby seat: infant €100, booster €60
- Car battery: €100
- Antenna: €50
- Alloy wheel: €100 each
- Hubcap: €50 each
- Side mirror: glass €40, mechanism €100
- Car floor mats: €20 each
- Stained seats: €90
- Windshield wipers: €30
- Car tire: €80 each
- SUV/4×4 tire: €100 each
VEHICLE CLEANING FEE
If the vehicle is returned excessively dirty, a cleaning fee of €60 + VAT will be charged.
FINES FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS OR OTHER LEGAL LIABILITIES
The renter is responsible for paying any traffic fines or administrative penalties resulting from violations of Greek traffic law. Fines can be paid in cash or by credit card. If a fine is issued after the rental period has ended, our company will charge the amount to the renter’s credit card.
If license plates are removed by police or another authority during the rental period, the renter must immediately compensate the company. Compensation is calculated by multiplying the total number of days the vehicle is without plates by the current season’s daily rental rate.
Fines incurred during the rental are solely the responsibility of the renter and are not covered by the vehicle insurance. If a traffic violation occurs, the renter must inform the company and pay the amount due immediately. If not reported, the outstanding fine will be forwarded to the relevant municipality or traffic police for collection.
VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
Vehicle replacement due to accident or mechanical failure will be carried out:
- Within 48 hours during the months of October to May
- Within 72 hours during the months of June to September
FUEL POLICY
The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as when it was delivered.
If returned with less fuel, the renter will be charged for the difference.
If returned with more fuel, no refund will be given.
INSURANCE COVERAGE – FEES
Basic Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with excess amount
This insurance is included in the rental price. In case of an accident or damage, the liability of authorized drivers is limited to a specific excess amount. It also includes fire and theft coverage with the same excess amount. The excess amount varies depending on the vehicle category:
- Categories, B & B Auto: €700 excess amount
- Categories C, C Diesel & C Auto: €800 excess amount
- Categories D, D Diesel, D Auto, E, E Diesel & E Auto: €900 excess amount
- SUV category: €1,000 excess amount
- 7-seater vehicles: €1,200 excess amount
Explanation: Excess Amount (e.g., €700 + VAT)
The excess amount (e.g., €700 + VAT) defines the maximum amount the renter is liable to pay in the event of an accident or vehicle damage.
Specifically:
- If the repair cost exceeds €700 + VAT, you will only be charged €700 + VAT.
- If the repair cost is less than €700 + VAT, you will be charged the full amount of the damage (including VAT).
Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) – Reduced Insurance with excess amount
This insurance is available for an additional daily charge, depending on the vehicle category. It reduces the renter’s financial responsibility to a lower excess amount in case of damage or an accident. The excess amount varies as follows:
- Categories A, B & B Auto: €250 excess amount
- Categories C, C Diesel & C Auto: €350 excess amount
- Categories D, D Diesel, D Auto, E, E Diesel & E Auto: €400 excess amount
Full Damage Waiver (FDW) – Zero excess amount & Theft Protection (TP)
This insurance eliminates the renter’s financial liability entirely in case of accident or damage. It also includes fire and theft protection with no excess amount.
This coverage is available for an additional daily charge only for vehicle categories C, C Diesel & C Auto.
DAMAGES & INCIDENTS NOT COVERED BY ANY INSURANCE
None of our insurance plans cover the following:
- Damage caused while the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Damage caused by unauthorized drivers.
- Damage to the interior of the vehicle.
- Damage resulting from an accident not reported at the time of occurrence to both the rental company and the police.
- Damage while the car was illegally parked.
- Damage resulting from traffic code violations.
- Damage caused by reckless driving, intentional acts, or negligence.
- Engine damage due to incorrect fuel usage or driver negligence.
- Damage from driving on unsuitable roads or off-road (e.g., beaches, dirt roads, etc.).
- Damage occurring after the agreed return time.
- Damage to external mirrors.
- Damage or loss of tires, rims, or hubcaps.
- Damage to the underbody of the vehicle.
- Damage or loss of the car antenna.
- Any deliberate or negligent damage such as: clutch burnout, tire burnout, damage to the hood, trunk, or roof from someone sitting or standing on it.
- Loss of personal belongings.
- Loss, damage, or theft of the car keys.
- Loss or damage to baby seats, the jack, safety triangle, spare wheel, fuel cap, or any other accessories provided by the rental company.
- Partial or total theft due to the renter’s negligence (e.g., key left in the ignition or inside the car).
- Theft of the vehicle when the renter cannot return the key.
- Fines related to traffic or other legal violations.
Important:
All drivers listed on the rental agreement share equal liability for any of the above violations.
Any repair to the rental vehicle must be performed exclusively by authorized service centers of the rental company.
BOOKING CHANGES – CANCELLATIONS – LATE PICK-UP OR RETURN
1. Cancellation Policy
If you wish to cancel your reservation, you must notify us via email and receive confirmation that we have received your cancellation request.
- Full refund of the deposit will be provided for cancellations received at least 10 days before the scheduled rental start date.
- For cancellations received between 3 and 10 days prior to the rental start, 40% of the deposit will be withheld.
- For cancellations received less than 3 days prior to the rental start, the full deposit will be charged.
Please note: Our company is not responsible for delays or cancellations of flights or ferries. In such cases, the renter is required to inform us in advance of any changes or modifications to the reservation.
2. No-Show Policy
If the renter does not pick up the vehicle on the agreed rental start date and time without prior written or phone communication, the reservation will be automatically cancelled after 2 hours, and the full deposit amount will be charged.
3. Late Returns
A grace period of up to 20 minutes is allowed for vehicle returns.
After this time, a full day’s rental fee will be charged based on our current pricing policy.
4. Important Information
Before departure, renters must inspect the vehicle and report any existing damage to our staff (for your own protection, we recommend taking photos or videos of the vehicle).
The company is not responsible for any loss or damage of personal belongings.
We reserve the right to terminate the rental agreement without penalty if the renter is deemed to act against the interests of the company or violates traffic laws or rental terms.
